#015 ~ Priscilla

Today we received a Telegram from Priscilla, the first century teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Rome and surrounding cities and countries. Priscilla shares her love for teachers in the latest Telegram From Heaven. She refers to Helen Keller’s famous teacher, Anne Sullivan as a great example.

Welcome to Telegrams From Heaven. Her message is a thank you to teachers. We hope you enjoy it. Thanks for dropping by.

All Teachers Great and Small.

Thank you, teachers. My life was blessed as a teacher of the Gospel alongside my husband and the Apostle Paul. Teachers change lives. I saw it in Rome, in Corinth, and elsewhere.

I'm aware of Helen Keller. She regarded her teacher in high esteem. According to Helen, The most important day she remembers in all her life was the one on which her teacher, Anne Mansfield Sullivan, came to her. She was filled with wonder when she considers the immeasurable contrasts between the two lives which it connects. Ms. Sullivan opened up a new world to Helen, who was blind and deaf. Teachers open up new worlds to us all.

God favors teachers. In Romans 12, God specifically said, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach.”

Thank you for using your gift.

Is the First Century Gospel Teacher Priscilla in Heaven?

Priscilla was a first century woman of Jewish heritage. She and her husband, Aquilla, are among the first known Christian converts.  The New Testament mentions Priscilla, and her husband Aquilla, six times. The Apostle Paul calls them his “fellow-laborers” (Romans16:3).

So, is Priscilla in heaven? Most assuredly, Priscilla and her husband Aquilla are indeed in heaven as a result of their belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and subsequent teaching of His Gospel and ministry with the Apostle Paul during the years immediately after Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.

Priscilla: Christian Teacher and Missionary

For centuries, Priscilla has been held in high esteem by Christians for her early faith in Jesus Christ and her willingness to teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ alongside her husband and the Apostle Paul. She and Aquilla were tent makers and are credited with teaching Apollos, an early evangelist for Christ, “the way of God more adequately.”

Acts 18:24-26
24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor[a] and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.

The couple worked side-by-side to help strengthen the early Christian church.  Aquila is traditionally listed among the Seventy Disciples, but due to the traditions of the age, Priscilla has not been given the same credit as her husband.

The couple are mentioned six times in four New Testament books. Following are the remaining five:

Acts 18:2-3
2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, 3 and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.

Acts 18:18
Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos.
Paul stayed on in Corinth for some time. Then he left the brothers and sisters and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. Before he sailed, he had his hair cut off at Cenchreae because of a vow he had taken....

Romans 16:3
Greet Priscilla[a] and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 16:19
Final Greetings
The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla[a] greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house.

2 Corinthians 4:19
Final Greetings
Greet Priscilla[a] and Aquila and the household of Onesiphorus.

As a woman, Priscilla must have made quite an impression as a capable Christian teacher to be regarded in the New Testament so highly by Paul and Luke. Certainly she and her husband enjoyed God’s blessing. And in several Christian denominations, Priscilla and Aquila are regarded as saints.

Author Notes

The “authors” of each Telegram From Heaven are men and women of accomplishment who lived in the ancient or recent past. Each were known for their faith, or at least the potential for faith during their lifetimes. They are from around the globe, from every walk of life, and their life stories are inspiring and encouraging. We believe these stories offer powerful messages that might help change lives in some small or meaningful way, even if just to improve your walk with God, or to realize someone cares enough to send you a Telegram From Heaven.

The word “heaven” inspires limitless definitions among the religious and non-religious. A few examples include “the home of God,” “a setting of ultimate perfection in the clouds,” or “a place where the resurrection bodies and departed souls of believers spend eternity.” Most often the word conjures up images of ornate, opulent buildings and streets paved with gold. Of beauty, of paradise, of a heavenly kingdom.

Most Christians believe it is a real place, separate from Earth. Others are convinced it is close enough for its inhabitants to reveal themselves miraculously to the living.

Through brief, focused and topical messages, Telegrams From Heaven intends to encourage, entertain and inspire our neighbors around the world. We want to provide hope and inspiration.

Thanks for dropping by.
