The idea of the saints in heaven communicating with the living is not new. In fact, it is a popular belief. But not everyone agrees.

Can the dead communicate with the living? Individuals throughout the world, including religious, spiritual and Biblical scholars, as well as Christians, agnostics, mediums, scientists and spiritualists believe that the dead can communicate with the living.
Here at Telegrams From Heaven, we reserve the right to remain silent on this topic. But obviously we believe it’s within the realm of possibility.
It seems logical to us that in order for departed souls to communicate with us, they must first be able to observe us from heaven
Can the Departed Souls Observe Us From Heaven?
The question of whether or not departed souls observe human activity on earth has been debated for centuries.
Dr. Steven Waterhouse, pastor of Westcliff Bible Church in Amarillo, Texas, published a thorough book on Bible doctrine in 2000. It’s titled, Not By Bread Alone, An Outlined Guide to Bible Doctrine.
According to Dr. Waterhouse, “The Bible does not say whether departed saints can observe events on earth. Presumably departed saints are not totally ignorant of life on earth, but we simply do not know any details.”
Waterhouse also mentions angels in relation to this question. “Angels do observe the church (Eph 3:10).” This implies that activities on earth may somehow be communicated with our dearly departed, but no one knows for sure.

Can the Departed Souls Communicate With Us From Heaven?
Although it does not appear that there is Biblical evidence that the dearly departed can see us from heaven, it’s not uncommon for the clergy to believe it can happen.
In a blog post published in September of 2020, Msgr. Charles Pope, pastor of Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian in Washington, D.C. wrote, “There could be certain instances where the Lord permits a soul in heaven to send us a word, message, sign or consolation. However, this does not seem to be something we should regularly expect, and we should be very discerning before simply accepting that something is a message from a departed soul.”
How Can the Dearly Departed Communicate With Us From Heaven?
Although we can’t confirm from Bible sources that departed souls can communicate with us, many people believe it can and does happen. They maintain that the departed are able to communicate with the living in many ways.
In an online article for The Oregonian, Lizzy Acker writes the “10 ways to communicate with the dead, according to an expert.” Acker recounts a list tallied by self-described medium, Sheri Engler, of Medford, Oregon.
Engler’s ten ways the dead may communicate with the living include coins, aromas, dreams, wind chimes, birds, songs, photos, electricity, messengers and the following combined into one: feathers/stones/symbols/numbers.
In a blog post titled “6 Signs Loved Ones Send From Beyond,” written by Megan Bailey at beliefnet.com, Bailey describes six ways loved ones may communicate with us after they die. Her list includes signs via scents or smells, spirit lights, number patterns, notes, technology and phone calls.

According to Bailey:
“When someone passes on, we feel a tremendous amount of loss and grief. Many people find comfort in knowing their loved one is up in Heaven, and that their loved ones are sometimes able to send messages and signs that they are still around us. The energy of the person who has passed on can still come into our reality and speak to us. In fact, it’s incredibly common for these signs to happen. Our loved ones love to send us signs along our path, and can put signs into another’s path as a way to communicate with us as well. We just have to make sure to pay attention to our surroundings or these signs can easily be missed. These direct methods of communication can occur anywhere and at any time. They can be received when you are fully awake, or in a twilight state of dreaming."
In the online article, “12 Signs of the Beyond from Deceased Loved Ones,” Elena Tafone tells the story of Bill and Judy Guggenheim, co-authors of the book Hello From Heaven! According to the Guggenheims, the answer to the question, Can loved ones send us messages from heaven?, is a definitive, Yes!
“During their seven years of research,” writes Fafone, “the couple interviewed more than 2,000 people who’ve experienced what they call after-death communication, or ADC. They estimate that at least 60 million people—20% of the population of the United States—have had an ADC experience. Other polls estimate that number is much higher.”
According to the Guggenheims, their results suggest that the messages most often offer “love, comfort, and reassurance—though the way they’re communicated often differs.”
